Our Objective Stance

Research method & theological commitments

Fixed ground rules that hold, regardless of which movement, denomination, or practice
is under study.

I.

Scripture as the final court of appeal

Every claim we investigate is measured against the text of Scripture itself, not
against how it has traditionally been interpreted, preached, or practiced. Where church
history or popular practice diverges from what the text actually says, we name the
divergence plainly rather than harmonize it away.

II.

Non-denominational neutrality

We hold no institutional loyalty to any denomination, movement, or church tradition.
We are equally willing to critique any expression of the Christian faith. Our findings
are not shaped to protect a tribe — including our own history or preferences.

III.

Text before tradition, always in that order

We distinguish carefully between what Scripture states and what has accumulated
around it. Tradition is not treated as inherently wrong, but it is never treated as
authoritative in itself. Where a practice cannot be traced to the text, we say so.

IV.

Rigorous, transparent method

Our research follows sound hermeneutical principles — original language, literary
and historical context, and the whole counsel of Scripture rather than isolated
proof-texts. Sources are documented and conclusions are open to correction.

V.

Courage without cruelty

We do not shy away from difficult or contentious subjects. But we investigate
movements and practices, not personalities to be attacked. Our tone remains that of a
physician diagnosing, not a prosecutor condemning.

VI.

Pastoral application, not academic detachment

Research that never reaches the pulpit or the pew has served no one. Every project
aims to equip pastors, ministries, and believers to walk more faithfully — showing the
way back, not just naming what’s wrong.

ITMERI mark

To Avoid Being Misunderstood

What we are — and what we deliberately are not

We research because we love the Church

Not a watchdog or heresy-hunting body. Where our findings are critical, the goal is restoration, not exposure.

Not a watchdog organization

We don’t build lists of enemies or operate from suspicion of the Church.

We hold Scripture as our standard

Research on subjects like Christian nationalism examines how faith and politics interact — nothing more.

Not aligned with any party

Not an endorsement or condemnation of any government, party, or political ideology.

Financially and institutionally independent

Independence is a safeguard of our integrity, not an inconvenience.

Not funded or directed by any denomination

No church body has veto power over our conclusions — including groups we have historical ties to.

We publish our reasoning and method

Our conclusions remain open to correction, refinement, and honest challenge.

Not infallible, and we don’t claim to be

We are a research institute, not a magisterium.
